Abstract

Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumour with a high potential for recurrence. It mainly affects patients between the third and fourth decades of life. It is a rare condition in children. The authors report a case of ameloblastoma in an 08-year-old child. The particularity of this observation lies in the paediatric age, the histological type and the voluminous size of the tumour An 08-year-old child presented with a mandibular swelling that had been present since the age of 05. A CT scan revealed a voluminous polygeodic cystic image extending from the left ascending ramus to the right horizontal ramus. A hemimandiblectomy was performed with immediate reconstruction using a metal stent. Post-operative follow-up was favourable after an average follow-up of 06 months Although conservative surgical treatment is recommended in children in order to preserve bone stock, the size of the tumour and the type of radiological image would be aspects that would require radical surgery
