Abstract

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is routinely diagnosed by imaging alone prior to liver transplantation (LT). This approach may result in overdiagnosis in the absence of pathologic confirmation pre-LT. This study aimed to identify predictors of discordance between pre-transplant imaging-based, and post-transplant, tissue-based HCC diagnosis in transplant recipients. Methods: Adults LT recipients in the OPTN/SRTR database with pre-transplant HCC diagnosis and available explant pathology results for the years 01/2012-09/2024 were included.
