Abstract

The increasing carbon emissions and unsustainable resource use associated with petroleum-based aviation kerosene have prompted significant research into alternative fuels. Biomass-derived aviation kerosene has emerged as a promising solution, offering a renewable and carbon-neutral alternative. However, current production methods often require harsh conditions, leading to high energy consumption and operational challenges. This review focuses on the application of photothermal coupling catalysis in the production of biomass-derived aviation kerosene. Photothermal coupling catalysis integrates light and heat to enhance catalytic reactions, enabling biomass conversion under milder conditions. The combination of photothermal effects and catalysis improves reaction efficiency, product selectivity, and energy utilization. The significance of this approach lies in its potential to reduce energy consumption and improve the safety of the production process. By operating under milder conditions, the risk of side reactions and equipment degradation is minimized, leading to a more sustainable and cost-effective production of biomass-derived aviation kerosene. Photothermal coupling catalysis with catalysts offers a promising pathway for the efficient and sustainable production of biomass-derived aviation kerosene. • Advantages of photothermal coupling technology. • The critical role of catalysts. • Utilization of waste oil and grease. • Problems and future directions.
