Abstract

Historically, formal postoperative physical therapy (PT) has been utilized for primary total joint arthroplasty (TJA) rehabilitation. However, recent literature reports there may be an increased risk of complications and readmission associated with formal postoperative PT in TJA patients [1]. With the emergence of value-based care and the added cost of PT at a mean of $2500 per course of treatment, it is important to carefully consider the utility of formal PT after TJA [2].
