Abstract

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Studies investigating the association between chronic kidney disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) risk focus on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) rather than albuminuria. Albuminuria is an earlier, modifiable marker of kidney damage. This study explored whether albuminuria predicts AAA risk independently of eGFR. METHODS: Observational study using healthcare records of Stockholm residents free from AAA who underwent routine creatinine testing during 2006-2021. Cox regression evaluated the association between a single point albuminuria or the change within two years and the rate of a de novo diagnosis AAA and fatal-AAA (death within 30 days). RESULTS: , median albuminuria 15.9 mg/g). Over a median follow-up of 6.1 years, 3861 (0.51%) developed AAA, of which 245 (0.03%) were fatal. Compared to albuminuria
