Zoonotic diseases (zoonoses): Definitions, classifications, hazards, and prevention strategies
Abstract
Zoonotic diseases, also known as zoonoses, are infectious diseases that can be transmitted between humans and animals, including livestock, wildlife, and companion animals. These diseases have become a significant threat to global public health security, with their impact intensifying over time. This paper reviews the definition, transmission routes, and multidimensional classification systems of zoonoses, and provides a detailed analysis of the multiple threats these diseases pose to public health, the global economy, and ecosystems. Furthermore, it explores the primary challenges facing global prevention and control efforts and proposes an integrated strategy based on the One Health concept.
