Abstract

Cardiovascular instability during anaesthesia continues to contribute to perioperative morbidity and mortality.1,2 Many of these events occur independent of anaesthesia, but for those involving anaesthesia, medication administration is a frequent cause.3,4 Despite decades of routine use, the contemporary cardiovascular risks of major intraoperative drug classes are incompletely defined, with current teaching based on older practice eras,5 codified into modern guidelines.6 As practice evolves, drug-associated complication patterns shift, diverging from traditional dogma and current training.
