Preoperative anxiety and chronic postsurgical pain: a signal worth acting on, but clinical translation needs greater nuance
Abstract
Editor—We read the systematic review and meta-analysis by Bakker-Bons and colleagues1 with interest. The authors provided a welcome update in an area where mechanistic plausibility is strong, but clinical pathways remain uncertain. We offer a few methodological and interpretive considerations that may help clinicians apply these findings more safely and guide future research toward actionable, patient-level risk stratification.
