Contemporary Multimodality Imaging Approach to the Etiologic Workup of Heart Failure With Reduced Ejection Fraction
Abstract
Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is a common reason for referral to cardiology for etiologic work-up and management. Although guideline-directed medical therapies (GDMT) are recommended for all HFrEF patients, some may also benefit from specific therapies directed at the underlying cardiac pathology. Advances in cardiac imaging provide the contemporary cardiologist with multiple diagnostic tools and understanding their utility in the workup of HFrEF is essential to high quality patient care. We provide an overview on the role of multi-modality imaging for the etiologic work-up of new HFrEF, as well as a suggested algorithm to narrow the differential diagnosis.
