Synthesis of hollow silica nanospheres modified by imidazoline with superior corrosion inhibition performance
Abstract
In this paper, using hollow silica nanospheres, epichlorohydrin and 1-aminoethyl-2-phenylethyl imidazoline as raw materials, a kind of hollow silica nanospheres modified by imidazoline (SiO 2 @PAIM) was synthesized. On this basis, the corrosion inhibition performance of the hollow SiO 2 @PAIM was systematically investigated via methods of weight loss and electrochemistry. Research results indicated that the as-synthesized hollow SiO 2 @PAIM had superior corrosion inhibition performance. At a low dosage, the static corrosion inhibition efficiency of hollow SiO 2 @PAIM reached 87.65% along with a dynamic corrosion inhibition efficiency of 90.79%. The results were much higher than those of pure PAIM and the corresponding quaternary ammonium salt. More importantly, the hollow SiO 2 @PAIM presented excellent reusability. After four cycles, it still maintained a corrosion inhibition efficiency of 72.36%. Our work expanded the application of organic-inorganic hybrid materials in the field of metal corrosion inhibition, and provided a new idea for the development of efficient and environmentally friendly corrosion inhibition materials.
