Abstract

ABSTRACT The upper Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) palaeontological sites of Vadillos-1, Vadillos-2, and Las Majadas are located in the northern part of the province of Cuenca, Central Spain. It comprises a sedimentary sequence in Wealden-type facies, rich in non-marine and brackish-marine ostracods with high tolerance to salinity changes. A total of 13 non-marine and brackish ostracod taxa were identified in samples from these successions: Cypridea plutoi nov. sp., C . mohgi nov. sp., C . buraigensis nov. sp., C . cisnerosi nov. sp., C . sp. 1, Rhinocypris ? rlyehensis nov. sp., Damonella bennui nov. sp., Salvadoriella naharensis nov. sp., Notodromas sp. 1, Nostromo weaverae nov. gen. nov. sp., Theriosynoecum rodriguezlazaroi nov. sp., Theriosynoecum sp. 1, and Alicenula leguminella (Forbes). These taxa are reported for the first time in the study area and contribute to improved systematics and interpretations of non-marine upper Barremian palaeoenvironments.
