PSC phenotype or care pathway? Interpreting PSC with and without IBD
Abstract
We read with great interest the national multicenter cohort study by Theodoros and colleagues describing current characteristics of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) with or without inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Greece [1]. The study is valuable because contemporary PSC data from southern Europe remain limited and the comparison of PSC-IBD with PSC-only is clinically relevant. The key issue, however, is whether this study compared PSC phenotypes, or the care pathways through which PSC with and without IBD came to clinical attention.
