Abstract

I read with interest the paper by Schaapherder AF et al.,1 which describes outcomes in paired deceased donor kidneys from two large cohorts. The primary analysis concerns the concordance of early graft loss: how often it is symmetric (both kidneys from the same donor failed) or asymmetric (one kidney failed and one did not). The authors compare the symmetric graft loss observed with that which would be expected under a null hypothesis in which there is no pair association, since donor factors are not important determinants of outcome.
