Abstract

The decision of the World Health Assembly to recognise kidney disease as a global public health priority 1 marks an important inflection point for nephrology. It reflects not only the accelerating global burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD)-now affecting nearly one in ten people worldwide-but also the scale and urgency of the challenge: without coordinated global action, CKD is projected to become the fifth leading cause of death by 2050. 1
