Comprehensive analysis of techno-economic and environmental performances on renewable integrated energy system with heating, cooling, and power for micro-communities
Abstract
s To address the unmet dual seasonal demand for heating and cooling in China's hot-summer and cold-winter regions, this study proposes a source-storage-load integrated energy system (SSLS) featuring concurrent seasonal heat and cool storage with bidirectional operational control. Unlike conventional unidirectional borehole thermal energy storage configurations, the SSLS integrates rooftop photovoltaic-thermal collectors with spatially partitioned borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) for heat/cool charging, and couples the supply side with a thermally activated radiant system embedded in both walls and floors for active envelope insulation and space conditioning. A nonlinear synergetic optimization model was established to identify optimal configurations of PV/T area and BTES geometric parameters under multi-objective criteria. Comprehensive techno-economic-environmental assessment demonstrates that the optimized SSLS achieves high satisfaction rates for both direct heat/cool discharging, cuts energy consumption by over 50% and carbon emissions by over 40% relative to a conventional reference system, and yields substantial full-lifecycle economic benefits despite a modest payback-period trade-off. These findings confirm the SSLS as a cost-effective, low-carbon renewable energy solution for micro-communities in dual-demand climates and provide a replicable optimization framework for similar dual-storage systems.
