Experimental investigation of influencing factors in lightning-induced ignition of needles
Abstract
The proportion of forest fires triggered by lightning has been increasing globally in recent years. To better understand the ignition mechanisms behind lightning-induced wildfires and inform improved prevention strategies, this study designed a dedicated experimental system capable of reproducing the complete process of needle ignition by lightning. By systematically varying test conditions, the study examined the ignition mechanisms of needles under simulated lightning discharges, the statistical distribution of ignition probability, the dispersal radius of needles caused by the accompanying impact wave, and the spatial distribution of the high-temperature core region of the arc channel. The results elucidate the influence of the lightning-induced impact wave on the arc ignition process.
