Introduction to the RW-70/402 database
Abstract
The paper introduces a new open access database RW-70/402 of retaining wall data from constructions in mainly fine-grained soil deposits. The background to the database is summarised as well as criteria for inclusion of data in the database. Summary statistics of the key geotechnical and structural parameters are detailed in this paper. The soil classification chart for the soils in the database is presented. The undrained shear strength data is plotted against liquid limit and water content ratio. To illustrate the variation of key geostructural parameters across the case records in the database, the variation of maximum lateral displacement of the wall with increasing excavation depth is shown. The maximum ground surface settlement is plotted against excavation depth as well as its horizontal distance from the excavation. The paper also outlines some suggestions for possible future uses of the database.
