Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of telephone follow-up after discharge in patients with severe psychiatric disorders on rates of rehospitalization, treatment satisfaction, and patients’ attitudes toward medication at Razi Psychiatric Hospital in Tehran. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–post-test structure with a control group and a follow-up phase. The statistical population consisted of patients admitted to Razi Psychiatric Hospital during the year 2024, from which a sample of 40 individuals was selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, and after completion, the responses were entered into SPSS for analysis. Repeated measures analysis of variance was performed using SPSS version 24. The findings indicated that telephone follow-up had a significant effect on improving patients’ attitudes toward medication as well as increasing their satisfaction with treatment (p < 0.05). The results suggest that telephone follow-up can be an effective approach for enhancing treatment satisfaction and fostering more positive medication attitudes among individuals with severe psychiatric disorders.
