Abstract

• Obesity is linked to poor functional status, and greater utilization of health care resources. • Obesity creates challenges in nursing homes which already had strained resources. • Residents with obesity in nursing homes have more dependence of activities of daily living and require more staff and time to care for them. • Higher BMI and obesity are linked with greater healthcare utilization among nursing home residents.
