Abstract

Age-Based Genomic Screening (ABGS) is a approach to incorporating genomic sequencing for rare monogenic conditions into routine child healthcare. Rather than sequencing the whole genome for infant screening at birth, ABGS proposes to conduct targeted screening at medically relevant timepoints during childhood (2, 5, and 10 years). Previous studies have investigated parental attitudes towards population screening and diagnostic testing within specific disease contexts, such as ADHD, type 2 diabetes and autism spectrum disorder, assessing factors like the age and gender of the child, as well as parents' education and income levels, but there is relatively little data from the rare monogenic disease screening realm.
