Abstract

Pediatric patients with Huntington’s disease (HD) present differently from adult-onset HD. Individuals with juvenile-onset HD (JHD), historically defined as onset before age 21 years, may present with oromotor dysfunction, parkinsonism, or declining school performance. Chorea is rare, and if present, is a late manifestation. Seizures may be a presenting symptom, and seizures ultimately occur in approximately 30-50% of individuals with JHD. In contrast, seizures are not a defining symptom of adult-onset HD and occur at the same rate as the general public (∼1%).
