Recent advances in parallel kinetic resolution with organocatalysis
Abstract
Parallel kinetic resolution (PKR) is an important strategy for obtaining chiral functional molecules. PKR processes can be classified into three types, including chemo-, regio- and stereodivergent PKRs based on the two different reaction pathways involved in the same PKR system. Organocatalysis has recently been adopted to achieve various PKR transformations with both satisfactory efficiency and enantioselectivity. We provide here an overview of the organocatalytic PKR reactions with the aim of highlighting both the importance and elegance of these methods in the preparation of diverse challenging chiral compounds. The possible future development in this direction is also provided based on our own perspective and experience in both organocatalysis and PKR reactions. Advances in organocatalysis have established PKR as a powerful strategy for the simultaneous synthesis of two enantio-enriched molecules. The intriguing mechanisms and designs reported to date promise that further investigation of organocatalytic PKRs will be anticipated to significantly advance both synthetic chemistry and industrial applications.
