Double figure-of-eight reentry during atrial tachycardia using 4 critical boundaries: A unique topological finding
Abstract
Recent translational studies by Vandersickel and Duytschaever et al. focusing on topology and the role of critical (CBs) and non-critical boundaries (NCBs) in reentry, have shown that reentrant atrial tachycardia (AT) in humans is driven by rotation around two CBs. 1-3 In atria with two boundaries-only, this manifests as a single reentrant loop with clockwise (CW) rotation around one CB and counterclockwise (CCW) rotation around the other CB. In atria with three boundaries or more, paired CB rotation manifests itself as two loops simultaneously rotating (one CW, the other CCW) around both CBs with parallel activation around the residual NCBs.
