Abstract

The subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) uses an audible alert tone (AT) to notify patients of device abnormalities such as battery depletion or oversensing issues.1 Effective patient notification requires both reliable tone generation and the patient’s ability to perceive the alert.2–4 However, data on AT perceptibility in recipients of S-ICD remain limited. In addition, manufacturer safety communications have reported potential loss of AT volume after magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
