Trends and research hotspots in digital interventions for recovery in Schizophrenia: A Bibliometric analysis (2016–2025)
Abstract
Mapping publication performance, geographic distribution of authors and affiliations, composition of document types and scientific fields, and dynamics of research themes on digital interventions for schizophrenia recovery (2016–2025). Bibliometric review of the Scopus database (September 25, 2025) without language restrictions. Analysis using VOSviewer (keyword co-occurrence network, overlay map, density map) and descriptive analysis for publication trends, document types, scientific fields, affiliations, and country contributions. A total of 111 documents were included in bibliometric analysis, dominated by journal articles (77.5%) and reviews (20.7%). The primary field was Medicine (61.5%), followed by Neuroscience (11.8%) and Psychology (9.9%). The annual trend peaked in 2021 (19 publications). The most prolific authors and affiliates were concentrated in the Australian ecosystem (e.g., University of Melbourne/Orygen), with the largest country contributions coming from the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Keyword mapping identified psychosocial therapy/rehabilitation, relapse prevention and family support, digital technology and self-management, and user experience as key clusters. Overlay maps demonstrated a shift from a focus on risk factors and early episodes of psychosis to the use of technology, self-management, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence-based programs. Density maps highlighted hotspots in therapy, technology, care, and relapse prevention. Digital intervention research for schizophrenia recovery is multidisciplinary and increasingly solution-oriented, demanding hybrid service models, standardized evaluation frameworks, and global collaboration for sustainable and scalable digital recovery programs.
