Abstract

We respond to Rattanaumpawan et al. [1], who describe a potential association between a case of severe dengue hemorrhagic fever and TAK-003 (Qdenga). TAK-003 is a live-attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccine based on a dengue virus (DENV)-2 backbone, expressing premembrane (prM) and envelope (E) proteins from all four serotypes [2]. Detection of all four vaccine strains in the patient’s sample is not unexpected for a live-attenuated tetravalent vaccine and reflects postvaccination viraemia. We wish to address the interpretation of these findings.
