Abstract

A 33-year-old HIV positive (CD4+T-cells =1cells/µl) patient, presented with a three-week history of non-dysentery, pancytopenia, and a urine lipoarabinomannan assay (urine‐LAM) positive. Abdominal ultrasound showed splenomegaly with diffuse hyperechoic nodules. Subsequently, Mycobacterium avium was cultured from blood, bone marrow aspirate, and repeatedly on sputum. Acid-fast bacilli were observed on stool microscopy and bone marrow biopsy (Figure 1). The patient died despite receiving treatment for M.
