Glucose oxidase assisted AgNPs/lysozyme composite coating for enhancing the controllable and rapid antibacterial properties of textiles
Abstract
It is still a challenge to develop a textile that can quickly enhance its bactericidal activity when exposed to a lot of sweat. Here, we propose a strategy that combines Glucose oxidase (GOx), AgNPs, and a phase-transited lysozyme composite coating (Ag-GOx-PTL) to achieve a synergistic rapid bactericidal effect. First, an antibacterial PTL coating was formed on the fabric surface, where a large number of reducing amino acids on the PTL reduced Ag + to AgNPs and anchored them to the fiber. Then, glucose oxidase was immobilized on the PTL coating through bioconjugation techniques. Due to the synergistic effect of PTL and AgNPs, the antibacterial rate of GOx-Ag-PTL@wool reached 99.99 %. When exposed to a lot of sweat, the excellent hydrophilicity makes water droplets spread on the whole fabric within 1 s. Under the catalysis of glucose, the rapid killing rate of GOx-Ag-PTL@wool reached 99.56 % for E. coli and 98.59 % for S. aureus (10 min). Additionally, GOx-Ag-PTL@wool exhibits excellent breathability, moisture permeability, and UV resistance. This research holds potential application value in enhancing the rapid antibacterial performance of composites and developing materials for sportswear. • Rapid bactericidal strategy of sweat-strengthened composites. • Amyloid-like protein anchors GOx and AgNPs to improve binding fastness. • GOx catalyzes glucose in sweat to produce hydrogen peroxide. • Hydrogen peroxide catalyzes the degradation of AgNPs to silver ions.
