Properties of laser-cladded FeCoCrNiMo high-entropy alloy on N80 carbon steel surfaces
Abstract
To address the prevalent issue of tubing failure in oil and gas production, this study employed laser cladding technology to fabricate a FeCoCrNiMo high-entropy alloy coating on oilfield-grade N80 carbon steel tubing-a less-studied substrate. The resulting single-track clad exhibited excellent bonding with the substrate. The microstructure of the coating was characterized and analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Furthermore, the coating's hardness and corrosion resistance were investigated through microhardness testing, friction and wear tests, and electrochemical corrosion experiments. The results revealed that the coating demonstrated significantly superior wear resistance and corrosion resistance compared to the base material, effectively enhancing the overall hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the tubing material. This study demonstrates that applying the high-entropy alloy cladding onto oil tubing significantly enhances service durability and improves oilfield operational efficiency.
