X-ray-irradiated KCl:Eu2+ single crystal as a deformation-quantitative indicator sensitive to applied strain and load
Abstract
A peak (330 K peak) dependent on strains appears around 330 K on the thermoluminescence (TL) glow curve for X-ray-irradiated KCl:Eu2+ crystals, but the details of mechanism are not clear, based on experimental results. Here, the deformation luminescence model of 330 K peak is explored for the crystals. Bleaching with F-light, 330 K peak intensity (I330K peak) decreases with the bleaching time as the variation of TL intensity (IF-centre) due to F-centres with it. The 330 K peak relates to the F-centre near dislocation segment in the crystal. The results analyzed in terms of each TL intensity (i.e., I330K peak and IF-centre) versus absorbance peak at wavelength 560 nm indicate that the captured electrons are more easily released from F-centres near dislocation segment rather than from the isolated F-centres. Under the optical or thermal stimulus, the electrons at F-centres near dislocation are partially released and easily migrate to trapped holes at Eu3+ ions through the dislocation line.
