Dormant cutaneous nocardiosis presenting as a nonhealing wound following laser treatment of a traumatic scar
Abstract
Primary cutaneous nocardiosis is an uncommon infection often caused by direct inoculation of Nocardia species from soil through traumatic injury disrupting the skin barrier. The infection can present as ulcerations, cellulitis, abscesses, and granulomas, frequently in immunocompromised patients.1 Clinical recognition is often challenging because lesions can present nonspecifically, mimicking other common bacterial, mycobacterial, or fungal infections, and Nocardia diagnosis requires extended culture time in specialized media conditions.
