Abstract

We read with great interest the study by Ho et al. which demonstrated that hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with simple steatosis [metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) without metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH)] had a significant survival advantage after hepatectomy, whereas progression to MASH negated this benefit[1]. Notably, in the subgroup of HBsAg-positive patients, the presence of MASLD or MASH did not significantly affect overall survival (OS) or recurrence-free survival (RFS).
