Mast cells fuel squamous cell carcinoma through a targetable MRGPRX2–IL-17A axis
Abstract
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common nonmelanoma skin cancer (Wysong, 2023). Although early lesions are usually curable with medical or surgical therapy, a substantial subset behaves aggressively and are recurrent; deeply infiltrative; and, in some cases, metastatic. Aggressive cSCC are more frequent among older adults and immunosuppressed patients for whom repeated surgical procedures may be challenging or even contraindicated.
