Abstract

Kriha et al. demonstrated the diagnostic value of molecular testing by evaluating reverse transcription quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) detection of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus (TBEV) RNA in serum, whole blood, cerebrospinal fluid and urine collected at different stages of infection.1 Another study demonstrated that RT-qPCR provided high sensitivity and specificity while remaining user-friendly, making it an effective method for identifying and distinguishing TBE virus during the acute stage of infection as well as in animal hosts and tick vectors.
