Abstract

We read with great interest the Article by Guo and colleagues published in the Journal of Infection,1 which reported the identification of a high-risk Enterobacter (E.) hormaechei ST78 clone co-harboring blaNDM-4, tmexCD2-toprJ2, and mcr-9.2 from hospital wastewater in China. Previous studies2,3 indicated that hospital effluents are hotspots for the emergence and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). A recent report investigated how a clonal outbreak of Enterobacter hormaechei ST79 carrying blaNDM-5 and blaOXA-48 on contaminated dicloxacillin capsules spread to other Enterobacterales in Europe.
