Abstract

This paper focuses on the simulation of linear and nonlinear eddy current (EC) responses as implemented in commercial 3MA nondestructive testing systems. An analytical EC formulation, evaluated with robust numerical procedures, is used to investigate the behavior of bilayer specimens. In both linear and nonlinear regimes, the quasi-static magnetic response is described by the arctangent hysteresis model. The model accurately reproduces the electromagnetic meso- to macroscopic behavior, including B–H loops and minor incremental-permeability loops. Its robustness is validated by comparing simulated and experimental signals for various press-hardened components.
