Abstract

• We provide an overview of academic literature on gender in European farming. • We combine a quantitative and qualitative analysis to map existing research. • We find that research on gender has remained binary and single-axis. • Only a few studies take an intersectional approach. • We identify five discourses around gendered structures and agency. • Feminist political ecology embeds gender in socio-economic and ecological relations.
