Abstract

Background: The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System-Physical Function (PROMIS-PF) and Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) are frequently used patient-reported outcome measures in total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA); yet, direct psychometric comparison of these 2 measures has not been previously performed. The purpose of this study was to compare the psychometric properties of PROMIS-PF and OSS, measured at baseline and 6 months post-operatively, among patients undergoing primary TSA. Methods: A retrospective study of 70 patients undergoing anatomic or reverse TSA at a single institution (2021-2024) was performed. All patients included completed a pre-operative and a 6-month post-operative PROMIS-PF v2.0 short form 10a survey and OSS survey. Psychometric analysis was performed to compare internal consistency reliability, convergent construct validity, floor/ceiling effects, and responsiveness between measures. Results: Both PROMIS-PF and OSS demonstrated excellent internal consistency reliability and strong responsiveness. While both instruments had very low (
