Abstract

Aortoiliac arterial occlusive disease may be complicated by distal embolization after angioplasty. We report a patient with a heterotopic renal transplant who had distal embolization of thrombus to one of the segmental branches of the graft kidney during angioplasty and stenting of the common iliac artery. This complication was immediately identified and salvaged using a stent retriever device with timely reperfusion of the graft kidney. This report is the first to our knowledge of this technique in salvaging distal embolization in a patient undergoing heterotopic renal transplantation.
