Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) prevalence is rising at alarming rates across sub-Saharan Africa, yet delayed diagnosis, inadequate treatment, and care remain prevalent.1 This growing burden is further exacerbated by the high incidence of complications and premature mortality, and limited expenditure.2,3 Addressing this burden requires strengthening existing responses, including prevention, early detection, access to medicines, and integration of diabetes care with multimorbidity, mental health, and infectious disease.
