Abstract

In April, 2025, the UK Government announced a £600 million investment in a Health Data Research Service (HDRS), a single access point for health data research and approvals; this announcement marks a pivotal commitment to national health infrastructure. HDRS promises to accelerate innovation, improve patient outcomes, and reduce the costs of the UK National Health Service (NHS). With parallel initiatives advancing in the EU and the US, the UK’s position as a global leader in health research will depend on the success of the HDRS.
