Closing the Implementation Gap: New Models of Care to End Chronic Liver Disease
Abstract
Chronic liver disease (CLD) represents a major and growing public health challenge in Europe, driven largely by the convergence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), alcohol-related liver disease (ALD), and viral hepatitis as outlined in the four manuscripts published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe about ending CLD as a public health threat in Europe.1–4 MASLD alone affects approximately one-third of the adult European population and is second only to ALD as a leading cause of cirrhosis.
