Leveraging hybridisation capture sequencing to strengthen wastewater pathogen genomic surveillance
Abstract
The pioneering modelling work by Simon L Grimm and colleagues, published as an Article in The Lancet Microbe, provides a quantitative framework for assessing the sensitivity and cost of wastewater metagenomic sequencing (W-MGS) for viral surveillance.1 A responsive Correspondence by Yuan Meng and Jing-Xuan Zhou, also published in The Lancet Microbe, further addressed the practical barriers to achieving equitable W-MGS.2 Building on the insights shared by the authors of these publications, we wish to draw attention to additional technical and strategic considerations that remain underappreciated but are crucial for effectively implementing W-MGS.
