Abstract

On Dec 15, 2025, the political declaration of the fourth high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing1 was finally adopted with 175 votes in favour, two votes against (the USA and Argentina), and one abstention (Paraguay), despite initial controversy stemming from the USA refusing to support this declaration during the UN General Assembly in September, 2025. The declaration emphasises the need to deliver comprehensive, high-quality, and integrated health services that are inclusive of mental health care.
