Abstract

The problem of economic-emission dispatch is addressed in this research as a nonlinear and nonconvex optimization problem, considering valve-point loading effects, transmission losses, and conflicting objectives. The NSGA-III algorithm is used to solve the multi-objective problem of optimal power dispatch, considering fuel costs, emissions, and transmission losses as major objectives. The reliability screening mechanism is also incorporated to ensure feasible operation, considering voltage unbalance and phase angle deviations. The simulation results on standard IEEE test systems have shown better Pareto front solutions compared to existing evolutionary approaches. The simulation results on the IEEE 39-bus systems have shown a reduction in fuel costs up to 2.31%, reduction in emissions up to 3.84%, and a faster rate of convergence up to 18% compared to NSGA-II, MOPSO, and DE algorithms. The proposed algorithm is a combination of NSGA-III, adaptive mutation, and constraint handling to ensure better diversity and convergence stability in solving multi-objective optimal power dispatch problems.
