The Evolving Role of Nurse Practitioners in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
Abstract
Aortic stenosis (AS) is a prevalent valvular heart disease, and NPs are essential in its early detection and management. NPs initiate diagnostic testing and refer patients to a multidisciplinary structural heart team for collaborative, patient-centered treatment planning. Traditionally treated with surgical aortic valve replacement, management of AS has evolved with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), a minimally invasive procedure that has transformed outcomes. As TAVI use expands, NPs play an increasingly critical role in AS assessment, diagnosis, and timely referral. This article aims to strengthen NP knowledge of AS evaluation and treatment options.
