Abstract

Stress fractures are common overuse injuries in adolescent athletes, particularly those engaged in high-impact sports. This case report describes a female adolescent multisport athlete who presented with foot pain and was ultimately diagnosed with a metatarsal stress fracture. This case highlights the importance of addressing underlying risk factors, including biomechanical imbalances, training errors, and nutritional deficiencies. Diagnostic approaches and evidence-based management and return-to-play criteria are discussed to provide nurse practitioners with practical guidance for appropriate diagnosis, comprehensive care, safe return to sports and prevention of recurrence.
