Abstract

High-voltage power supplies are so important in today's world. A power supply's critical characteristics are efficiency and reliable performance in short-circuit conditions. ‎This article presents a new high-voltage ‎ resonant converter using an LCCL resonant network that can provide these 2 goals. This resonant converter has advantages such as removing the adverse effect of the high-voltage transformer stray capacitor, optimal performance in short-circuit conditions, achieving soft switching, and high efficiency. The converter incorporates a full bridge inverter, which provides several benefits. These include the capability to control high input voltages and implement soft switching in the form of zero-voltage switching when the inverter switches are turned on. Also, this converter consists of a transformer and a new voltage multiplier, which is a combination of a Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplier (CWVM) and a Dickson voltage multiplier (DVM). The new voltage multiplier has a lower voltage drop than the CWVM and a lower voltage stress on capacitors compared to the DVM. In the new voltage multiplier, soft switching occurs when the diodes are turned off in the form of zero current switching. The equations related to the LCCL resonant converter and the new voltage multiplier are provided. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and successful operation of the suggested high-voltage LCCL resonant converter operating at a 311 V input voltage, 44 kHz switching frequency, and generating a high-voltage output in the kilovolt range.
