Abstract

Carbon dioxide emissions from industrial and energy activities continue to be an environmental concern. Among the techniques used to reduce emissions, Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) has been identified as an effective technique for controlling emissions from major industrial and energy activities to promote clean production techniques. This study provides an overview of the present status of carbon capture techniques and other alternative techniques, with emphasis on their principles and applications. This study has also addressed transportation and storage techniques for carbon dioxide emissions, particularly geological storage techniques that can be used for effective containment of carbon dioxide emissions. This study has also addressed the potential of carbon dioxide utilization techniques and their application to convert carbon dioxide into useful products. However, with developments in carbon dioxide capture techniques and storage techniques, the application of CCUS is influenced by economic factors, infrastructure, and policy support. Further developments in materials and optimization techniques are important for improving feasibility. CCUS can be used to promote clean energy production techniques.
