Conductivity and permittivity dispersions in aqueous suspensions of spherical particles in the wide range of frequencies
Abstract
A suspension of particles typically exhibits low-frequency α -dispersion of permittivity owing to the perturbation of electrolyte concentration near the surface of the particles, and high-frequency Maxwell–Wagner–O’Konski δ -dispersion due to the disturbance of the distribution of ions across the electric double layer caused by an external field. We propose general, compact formulas that combine α - and δ -dispersions of electric conductivity and dielectric permittivity in dilute suspensions of charged spheres. The analytical expressions are practical because they are explicitly separated into imaginary and real parts. These new formulas have been successfully applied to experimental data on dielectric dispersion in aqueous suspensions of latex particles, as reported by Grosse and Delgado (2010) [8].
